Round 13 Review

The Seniors and Ressies both got across the line in narrow wins on the weekend. This sees the Seniors get out of the bottom 2 on the ladder but still in danger of relegation. The boys need another couple of wins to stay in C grade.

Unfortunately the Thirds had to forfeit due to a lack of numbers. There are only 3 more games for the Thirds (shorter season) so make yourself available!

It’s not too late to show your support for the Wellers by buying a club membership and securing yourself a flashy club winter fleece and scarf.

After last weeks disappointing result  at the hands of Marcellin, the Wellers were keen to make amends and put in a much improved effort against Oakleigh away.

The Wellers would start strongly with a 5 to 2 goal first stanza.Big man Ben Hart set the standard in the middle giving onballers Latsa and Trait plenty of ball.Matt Powell was looking very dangerous on his wing with some long bombs on target.Tackles and forward pressure signs were up early. The Wellers had come to play.

The second quarter would see Oakleighs big bodies hit back hard and at stages our backline would be under constant pressure.Luckily the ever reliable Bennett would dominant in the air and Proska was holding the dangerous Cloke. We would go into long break a 32 point buffer.

The third would see us completely dominate the quarter the young brigade led by Parker ,Taverner and Wells were everywhere and The Enigma T Kanz was starting to clunk anything coming his way.
The problem was we couldn’t convert,we would kick 3 goals 7 for the quarter and waste many easy shots on goal.

The last would see the boys hang on bravely and salute by 6 points.A very determined effort after a few serious injury concerns that would hamper rotations late in the game. The boys were exhausted in the end but were able to hold on for a much needed win. Thanks to all supporters and helpers on the day.

The 2nds had a great come from behind win against Oakleigh. We controlled most of the play in the first quarter but couldn’t put the score on the board and allowed the opposition to stay in touch.

Despite looking the better team for most of the game, Oakleigh were able to gain a 10 point lead in the last quarter and we were struggling to put together successive goals.

Finally we managed to get the lead after restructuring our team and were able to win a close tussle. The whole team played well, despite having a fair few players either coming back from injury or with limited games at this level.

Peperell was a shining light up forward well supported by Lucas who played like a rover. The onballers especially big Oz and Ship in the ruck, Stayner, Dick and Caveman continually tried hard. The backline led by Captain for the day Sam Powell managed to repel many attacks and Bromell did well on their key forward.

Great win given the side had so many changes from the previous week.

Goal Kickers: T. Pepperell 3, L. Huysmans 3, M. Vogel, A. Bongiorno, S. Powell, B. Hillier
Best Players: S. Powell, T. Stayner, T. Pepperell, L. Huysmans, M. Cottrell, B. Dean
