Third’s Season Review

3rds Season Wrap

It’s hard to believe that Old Camberwell hasn’t had a Thirds football side for over four years as for most of the year, the 2018 Thirds were spoilt for choice with personnel.

Although the ladder does not reflect a great deal of success for the team, it belies the true success that was achieved with the side. Throughout the year we had over 45 players play, one player has played in all three men’s teams and is now playing senior football  and looking to be included in the side that plays finals. For a large chunk of the boys, they were able to forge new friendships and enjoy a new culture built around inclusiveness (no matter how weird you are) and positivity, as well as the idea that participation is king and that as long as you are giving everything you can then that is all we ask.

We have also been fortunate to have found some quality footballers in our ranks, who should progress in coming years with their football development into the more senior teams. Steven Cunningham was instrumental throughout the midfield, only missing one game, Matt Todd started the year as a rusted on 3rds player, and is now a stalwart of the reserves, and Ritchie McDonald and Tyler Phelps have both shown plenty of football nouce, while Mitch McPherson was potent up forward during his time in the side.

All in all, the thirds team was a tremendous success, as it allowed plenty of boys to play football for a club that really supported them, build friendships with new people from all walks of life and assisted massively in making the overall club better. It has been a privilege to be their coach.
