Old Camberwell and our extended community mourn the passing of Christine (Chris) Wilson.
The Wilson family’s connection with our football club is long and deep. Chris’s husband Bruce is an old boy and played a season for the club in 1964. He became heavily involved with the club when his eldest son James started playing in 1989 and sponsored the club through his business Reece Plumbing. Bruce was made a life member in 1993 and continues to support the club today.
Chris’s youngest son Andrew (Coxy), also an old boy, played briefly with the club straight from school in the early 90’s. Chris’s eldest son James first played in 1989 and went on to play 9 seasons and 136 games. He played a key role in the double Premiership season in 1993 and captained the Seniors in 1997 and 1998, winning promotion that year. He was named in our team of the ’90’s and is an integral part of our club’s history.
I was fortunate to play with both brothers and have known the Wilson family since I was 4 years old. Chris and Bruce rarely missed a game or social occasion and formed the core of our supporter group during the years their sons played. Chris was an incredibly kind, engaging and loving person always with a word of encouragement and always able to bring a smile to any occasion. She will be missed by all who met her and deeply missed by all who knew her well.
Our condolences, love and thoughts are with Bruce, James, Andrew, Pennie and their families at this time.
Fondly remembered and never forgotten.
